Eternity is way too long to be wrong.

2 Peter 1:16-21

I read an article recently regarding Heaven. The article explained why many people seemed as if they are not longing to go there. It said one of the facts that revealed that people don’t have a longing for Heaven is their prayer life. It said most of our prayer lives sound like we are content to have God make THIS world a better place. It is almost as if we are saying, “God, if you can make this world a little more comfortable and safer, I am ok staying here forever.”  Satan’s goal is to keep us obsessed with this fallen world instead of being captivated by our Heavenly home.

I genuinely believe that one of the reasons that we as believers aren’t longing for Heaven is because we do not have a clear, biblical, proper understanding of Heaven. This text gives us several truths about the topic of Heaven.  Understanding these truths help us have a proper view of Heaven: A) a proper view of Heaven will help us persevere through trials in this life. Jesus says, “in this life; you will have trouble.” As we go through these trials and life happens, and it will, we have to understand that there is coming a day where death has no sting, and sin is no more. B) a proper view of Heaven will help us to live a generous life. When I live this life like this is all there is, I tend to build “my kingdom” here on earth. If I have a proper view of Heaven, I will live my life with the end in mind, and when this happens, I live a generous life. C) a proper view of Heaven gives me great joy. It will only be in Heaven, where we will find complete satisfaction. Sometimes when I hear people talk about Heaven, there seems to be a lot of focus on relationships, and please listen to me, I get it, I have a dad in Heaven that I miss terribly. Understand what makes Heaven an incredible place is Jesus. The Bible says, “I go and prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come, and you will be with ME.” Again, the greatest joy in Heaven is being with Jesus.

Would you take a moment to rest in the truths of Revelation 21::4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Rest in the fact that the best is yet to come.
